Tom Belco

Tom possesses 40 years of swim coaching experience and is a consistent top 10 finisher in Division 1 Class A MSHAA Swimming Championships.
He’s been named Regional Coach of the Year for Michigan State Highschool Athletic Association (MSHAA), South-West Michigan, for both Boys and Girls, as well as Michigan YMCA Coach of the year.

Tom has served on many aquatic boards and committees and is a board member of United States Swimming for the State of Michigan. He holds the post of Great Lakes Regional Competitive Commissioner for the YMCA, and is a member of the YMCA National Competitive Swim Committee.

The depth of his experience makes Tom a popular coach and keynote speaker at multiple conferences,clinics and workshops.

Cheryl Sherwood

Cheryl has been a competitive endurance athlete since 1995. She has competed in all disciplines of cycling, including road racing, criteriums, time trials, cyclo-cross and mountain biking. She achieved the rank of “Pro” in mountain biking. and more recently competes in triathlon at the half and full iron distances. Cheryl has competed in all distances of triathlon, inclu0513_03969 (800x533) (600x400)ding 2 Iron distance tri’s and countless half iron distance events. Other cross training includes ultra distance running and Dual Sport Enduro riding.

Cheryl is currently the Director for Team OAM NOW and has been directing pro and amateur cycling, triathlon and nordic ski teams since 2006. She has held the title of the Director of Women’s Racing for the Michigan Bike Racing Association and continues to put forth efforts to develop women’s racing and draw more women into sport.

Cheryl holds the highly regarded CSCS certification, a credential which has become the measure of excellence in the strength and conditioning profession, awarded by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (www.nsca.com). Cheryl is also a certified Nutrition Specialist, certified by the AASDN and is a USA Triathlon certified coach As an athletic trainer, Cheryl instructs and designs many programs and classes, some of which include strength training, mountain bike technique, swimming and triathlon. Her specialty is designing and leading womens’ programs to introduce more women to sport and fitness and to accelerate their results. She also provides nutritional counseling to athletes involved with Athletic Mentors’ training programs.

In 2003, Cheryl co-founded Athletic Mentors, which has become the premier strength and conditioning company in West Michigan. Athletic Mentors’ primary objective is to provide a coaching environment where athletes at all levels can reach their true potential in their disciplines and in their LIVES. Athletes trained through Athletic Mentors programs range from youngsters to All Stars in almost every sport, plus non-athletes striving to be happy, healthy, moving and fit human beings.

In this half day clinic we’ll teach you the most effective methods to develop your stroke, specific to your needs, your ability, and your body type. You’ll learn techniques for breathing, curing cross-overs, improving body roll, shoulder injury prevention, rhythm, timing, stabilize your kick and more to get maximum efficiency out of your stroke. Our limited enrollment clinics provide for a very personalized focus, which allows us to help you train “smarter.” The fusion of video analysis and years of coaching experience is a powerful tool that will improve your experience in both the pool and open water.   • Coach will critique the video of each athlete in a class format. Attendees will learn not only from watching their own video and stroke, but by watching that of other students as well.
  • Drills will be taught and practiced to address and correct the issues identified in the video.
